2024 Graduate Profile: Tin Pham
Q: When did you start at NSC?
A: I began my journey at NSC in the fall quarter of 2022, after completing my Associate of Applied Science (AAS-T) degree in Software Development at Seattle Central College. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the school offered a vibrant community with numerous activities and support services.
Q: What are you studying and what award are you earning (degree, certificate, etc.)?
A: I studied Application Development and earned a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (BAS) with a focus on software engineering and development.
Q: What field would you like to go into?
A: I aim to pursue a career in the tech industry, specifically in software development. I am passionate about creating innovative solutions and contributing to the advancements in technology.
Q: Favorite class and/or favorite memory at NSC?
A: My favorite classes were the practicum courses, where I had the opportunity to engage in hands-on projects and apply complex concepts to real-world scenarios. These experiences were incredibly rewarding, and they significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth. One of my most cherished memories is participating in a Hackathon, where I collaborated with fellow students, including those from non-tech programs, to brainstorm and develop ideas for a new app in just 24 hours.
Q: Why NSC?
A: I chose NSC because of its strong emphasis on student success and its unwavering commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The small class sizes and the accessibility of professors were significant factors that influenced my decision. Additionally, the instructors at NSC go above and beyond to ensure our success. They are not only knowledgeable but also genuinely invested in our academic and personal growth, providing invaluable guidance and support throughout my educational journey.
NSC’s vibrant multicultural campus, dedication to equality, and rich campus life were also key factors in my decision. The diverse community has provided me with a broader perspective and enriched my learning experience. The campus offers a wide range of activities and events that foster a sense of belonging and community, making my time at NSC truly rewarding and memorable.
Q: Did you utilize any student support services at NSC?
A: Yes, I utilized several student support services at NSC, which were instrumental in my academic and career development. The Career Services Center, with the dedicated support of the Technical Employment Program Manager, played a crucial role in guiding me through the internship search process and preparing me for job interviews. They provided personalized advice and resources that greatly enhanced my career readiness. Additionally, the Academic Advising Office offered invaluable assistance with course planning and ensured that I remained on track for graduation. Their guidance helped me navigate the complexities of my academic journey effectively, making the process much smoother and more manageable.
Q: Boundaries/obstacles/challenges that you’ve overcome?
A: Balancing work, study, and adapting to a new cultural environment was challenging. However, through perseverance and the invaluable support from the NSC community, I was able to overcome these obstacles. Another significant challenge was my initial lack of self-confidence. With the encouragement and support of my cohort and instructors, I gradually built my confidence and eventually emerged as a leader of the developer team. This transformation has been pivotal in shaping my personal and professional growth.
Q: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
A: I draw my inspiration from my family and my desire to contribute positively to society. Witnessing the profound impact of technology on improving people’s lives motivates me to continue learning and honing my skills. I am particularly inspired by the challenge of real-world problems and the potential to develop innovative solutions. This drives me to keep improving and striving to make a meaningful difference through technology. The support and values instilled by my family have always been my guiding light, encouraging me to pursue my goals with determination and passion.
Q: Why is getting a higher education important to you?
A: Obtaining a higher education is important to me because it opens doors to numerous opportunities and provides the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in my chosen career. It also represents a significant personal achievement and a way to give back to my community.
Q: What’s next after NSC?
A: After graduating from NSC, I am currently working for a tech company where I have the opportunity to continue growing as a software developer. I am also considering pursuing a Master's degree in Software Development to further deepen my knowledge and expertise in the field. Additionally, I am keen to stay in touch with the NSC community to support and assist future students as needed. I believe in giving back to the community that has significantly contributed to my journey, and I look forward to supporting aspiring developers on their educational journey.

A: I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and support I have received at NSC. The experience has not only enriched my academic knowledge but also shaped me into a more resilient and determined individual. I look forward to applying what I have learned and making meaningful contributions to the tech industry.
