Four NSC Rocketry Club Students Earn Certification
Congratulations to North Seattle College Rocketry Club members Drew Olson, Gabe Sico, Thomas Richichi and Dayeon Ko for earning their Level 1 certification from the National Association of Rocketry at a launch near White Swan, Wash., in April.
These students built, launched and recovered their high-power rockets, all of which reached about 3,000 feet (about twice the height of the Empire State Building). The rockets had to not only launch cleanly off the launch pad, but also had to release a parachute and drift slowly to the ground for recovery. Once these steps have been confirmed and the certification awarded, these rocketeers will be able to help others obtain their Level 1 certification and themselves build larger rockets to try to obtain their Level 2 certification.
The NSC Rocketry Club meets Sundays at 11 a.m. and Mondays at 1:30 p.m. in the Rocketry Shop in the basement of North’s College Center building. In addition to helping students obtain their high-power rocketry certification, the club also participates in joint projects on larger rockets with other colleges, such as Edmonds College or Seoul National University. Please contact club president Sicoya Bellis or join the club’s Discord forum.
