Students' Research Showcased at UW Symposium

NSC students present at UW Undergraduate Research Symposium

Seventeen North Seattle College students across eight teams presented their original research at the University of Washington’s Undergraduate Research Symposium on May 24.

Presenters included Ranim Alhegni, Su Jamale, Zaineb Boulahcen, Radiya Robele,  Kelly Azevedo de Souza, Carolina Gutierrez, Skylar Del Vecchio, Danna Mendez , Chelsea Lane, Carly Ann Maxwell, Christian Mackie, Ben Sanchez, Matthew Forster, Alex Cordova, Adam Gentry, Nicole Butler, and Alyssa Carney. 

Most of these students developed and implemented their research over the span of two or more quarters in North's Undergraduate Research course (UGR 294), team-taught by Biology faculty Ann Murkowski and Chemistry faculty Heather Price.

Nicole Butler, Alyssa Carney, Alex Cordova and Adam Gentry joined seven other colleagues from Shoreline College and UW Bothell in presenting their months-long study of the biology and chemistry of two watersheds in Lake Forest Park. This study was supervised by Biology faculty Brian Saunders, who secured a grant from King County’s WaterWorks program to fund the study, and Physics Faculty Tracy Furutani and another faculty member from UW Bothell.
