NSC Celebrates 50 Years of Changing Lives Through Education

NSC Celebrates 50 Years

Dear North Seattle College Community,

This fall, we celebrate the founding of North Seattle College. In 1970, NSC opened its doors to the community and since that time has made a profound impact in our community and in the lives of our employees, our students, and their families. The anniversary gives us an opportunity to come together, even while most of us are working remotely. We look forward to celebrating 50 years of service to the community and 50 years of changing lives through education.

Here’s a preview of the plans and celebrations for the year:

50th Anniversary Mural
We are excited to share that the NSC Art Council is leading the charge for a new mural to commemorate the 50th Anniversary. The mural will celebrate NSC's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and will honor the land and history of the college. This fall, the Art Council announced a call for an Indigenous artist to design a dynamic, innovative mural, and the students of ART 204: Mural Art will paint the mural on our campus. This will be the first campus mural on the east side of campus and will welcome students and community members from the parking lot and the newly constructed pedestrian bridge. We will share updates about the mural throughout the year.

50th Anniversary Sculpture
Lynne Hull, visual arts faculty, is designing a sculpture to honor the anniversary. Using foundation rocks from NSC’s original building, Lynne is creating a cairn sculpture that will serve as a symbol to mark this moment in the college’s history.

Student Scholarships
In honor of NSC's 50 years of impact on the community and in celebration of our future graduates we are raising $50,000 for student scholarships. Every gift towards scholarships will be matched dollar for dollar until we reach our goal. Help us propel North Seattle College into the next 50 years with a dedication to equity, access, and education for all. Learn more.

North Seattle College Timeline
The history committee is digging into the college archives to create a digital timeline of North Seattle College. The timeline will look back at important themes, events, photos, and articles from throughout the college’s history.

Time Capsule Reveal
A time capsule from 1970 is buried at the entrance to campus. This year, we’ll find out what treasures NSC employees buried for us 50 years ago. We’ll also collect treasures for a new time capsule that the next generation will discover.

NSC Celebrates 50 Years Message Board
We want to hear your memories of North Seattle College. Join in the celebration of NSC's 50 years by posting a message, photo, or video to our NSC Celebrates 50 Years Message Board.

Details and more information will be shared throughout the year. We look forward to celebrating the incredible work of the North Seattle College community!

Sincerely,
