Student Professional Association Launched

The Pharmacy Technician program recently learned that the Washington State Association of Pharmacy Technicians (WSAPT) has approved the formation of a chapter of the American Association of Pharmacy Technicians (AAPT) at NSCC. The AAPT works to expand the role of pharmacy technicians and to influence decisions which affect changes at all levels of the profession. Congratulations to program coordinator Uyen Thorstensen and the students who took the initiative to form a chapter.

Grant Funds Nursing Cohort

Starting winter quarter 2011, the NSCC Nursing Program enrolled 24 students in its new, ARRA-funded (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) hybrid nursing program. The students are employed in Seattle area medical centers. This is a two-year LPN to RN ladder program taught by current and new faculty members.

New Program Trains Emergency Department Employees

In order to meet the growing need for hospital emergency department technicians, faculty members of NSCC’s Health and Human Services Division, working in partnership with Swedish Medical Center and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), have developed an Emergency Department Technician Program. This program will take approximately 20 employees from within the Swedish Hospital organization and train them to become emergency department technicians. The coursework includes three kinds of classes: emergency department technician fundamentals, emer
