Student Walkout March 14

A walkout is being planned for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, as part of a nationwide call for changes to gun laws and a memorial to the 17 students and employees who were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida on Feb. 14. The 17-minute walkout will begin at 10 a.m. and convene in the free speech zone on campus in the courtyard.

We wanted to inform you as students so that, should you participate, you please work with your faculty members or supervisors should you be concerned about absences. It is at the discretion of each individual faculty member to determine how to handle or treat an absence. Additionally, for work-study students or campus interns, it is up to the discretion of your supervising staff member.

North Seattle College fully supports your right, and that of any college employee, to peacefully protest and call attention to improving public safety. Additionally, student activism has and will always be a crucial part of higher education and in building informed and engaged student citizens. We want to affirm to you that any students who choose to peacefully participate in this walkout will not face student conduct sanctions nor will your prospects at North be affected in any way.
