Statement from President Warren Brown on Charleena Lyles

June 30, 2017

Dear North,

It is with a heavy heart that I must share sad news with you. We learned today from our Parent Education faculty that Charleena Lyles, who was fatally shot by a Seattle police officer on June 18, was enrolled in the Parent Education program.

Charleena was enrolled in the program from Fall Quarter 2015 through Spring Quarter 2017, with plans of attending in the fall. Faculty who knew and worked with Charleena describe her as being actively involved in the program.

We send our most sincere condolences to Charleena’s family, friends and classmates. Parent Ed faculty are working to provide support to the community and classmates who knew Charleena, and more information will be shared with you once it becomes available.
