Passing of Dr. Richard Layton

From President Warren Brown, Ed.D.
June 9 , 2015

Marilyn Smith taught at North Seattle College for forty years before retiring and becoming the 2013-2015 chair of the North Seattle College Education Fund. She has always been accompanied by her husband, Dr. Richard "Dick" Layton. Dick was not simply Marilyn's side-kick at Phi Theta Kappa events or the Education Fund dinners; Dick was a devoted student who took courses at NSC. He was also a very distinguished professor in the University of Washington’s School of Medicine (having been provided many honors, which you can read about here).

It is with sadness that I report that Dick passed away peacefully June 8 at the age of 88. Since Dick cared so deeply for this place and was impacted and loved by the kind and wonderful people connected here, we are asking anyone who would like to give in his honor to make a gift to the Smith/Layton Scholarship Fund. Please contact the Ed Fund here and reference the scholarship by name.

Rest in peace, Dr. Richard “Dick” Layton, and thank you and Marilyn for your support of North Seattle College.
