North Seattle College Goes Tobacco-free Starting Fall Quarter

The North Seattle College campus became tobacco and smoke-free beginning September 28, 2015, the first day of Fall Quarter.

Discussions over whether the college should become a smoke-free campus have occurred since at least 1997. The college decided to go smokeless after significant study of the issue and recommendations by various committees, as well as passionate debate between those who feel smoking is a personal freedom issue versus those who feel smoking is a community health issue.

Steven Quig teaches English 97, 98, & 101

This is his 24th year teaching at North Seattle Community College. 

What is your favorite class to teach, and why?

The pre-college classes because students usually arrive not wanting to be there.  I see it as my job to gently convince students that it’s useful.  There’s a diverse group of students.
