Students of Color Conference in April

Student Leadership is taking 30 students to the Students of Color Conference in Yakima, WA, Thursday, April 21 - Saturday, April 23. All expenses paid! ALL students (of any identity) enrolled Spring Quarter are invited to apply.

The conference is a great way to strengthen your ethnic/racial identity and get introduced to social justice topics and activism related to racial inequalities.

Applications are in the SL office (CC 1446), the Women’s Center, at the Library Reference Desk, and at Fill out a form, write a short essay, and attach your Spring Quarter schedule. Applications are due March 4 in the SL office.

Information sessions: Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1-1:30 p.m and 1:30-2 p.m. in the Grove Seminar Room (HS 1540A).

Safety and Security Discussion

Please join Student Leadership and Director of Security Darryl Johnson for an open forum addressing safety and security on campus—Friday, Feb. 19, 12:30-2 p.m., Baxter Center (ground floor of the College Center Building).

We would like to give everyone in our community the chance to learn about and engage in conversations surrounding how to actively be safe on campus in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Darryl will give a PowerPoint presentation followed by a Q&A.

Call for Submissions to League for Innovation Writing Competition

It’s time again for the League for Innovation Writing Competition! Students, submit original fiction, one-act play, personal essay, and poetry for consideration. The deadline is March 16, 2016.

First there is a local contest, and then the four winners are forwarded on to the national level where Seattle has been extremely successful, as evidenced by last year’s amazing national award winners Katie Constant (poetry) and Whitney J. Tuxbury (personal essay). Find more information at

Now Accepting UTF Requests!

The Student Fee Board has opened up the request period for Universal Technology Fees (UTF)! UTFs are used to purchase technology that directly benefits students. The deadline for these applications is Thursday, January 15. If you have questions about a potential request, then please feel free to contact the committee for feedback and guidance.

North Seattle College Goes Tobacco-free Starting Fall Quarter

The North Seattle College campus became tobacco and smoke-free beginning September 28, 2015, the first day of Fall Quarter.

Discussions over whether the college should become a smoke-free campus have occurred since at least 1997. The college decided to go smokeless after significant study of the issue and recommendations by various committees, as well as passionate debate between those who feel smoking is a personal freedom issue versus those who feel smoking is a community health issue.
