NSC Student Tiffany Carpenter Awarded Prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

Tiffany Carpenter, Recipient of Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

North Seattle College (NSC) student Tiffany Carpenter was recently awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Carpenter is one of only 55 people in the nation and the only recipient in Washington state of this prestigious scholarship. She is also the second North student to win the competitive scholarship since 2012.

“It is unbelievable to be a recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship,” said Carpenter. “It is a testament to working hard and doing the most with what you have, so that doors will open.”

NSC Hosts Ballot Drop Box

North Seattle College is partnering with the King County Elections Department to host a ballot “drop box” on campus. The primary election is this coming Tuesday, Aug. 1, but ballots can be dropped off 24 hours a day from now through 8 p.m. on Aug. 1.  The ballot “drop box” is located on the west side of campus, near the visitor parking at College Way and 95th St.

Statement from President Warren Brown on Charleena Lyles

June 30, 2017

Dear North,

It is with a heavy heart that I must share sad news with you. We learned today from our Parent Education faculty that Charleena Lyles, who was fatally shot by a Seattle police officer on June 18, was enrolled in the Parent Education program.

Charleena was enrolled in the program from Fall Quarter 2015 through Spring Quarter 2017, with plans of attending in the fall. Faculty who knew and worked with Charleena describe her as being actively involved in the program.

North Seattle College Rocketry Club soars to new heights

Students in the North Seattle College (NSC) Rocketry Club will compete in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition, the world’s largest rocket competition for colleges and universities, on June 20–24 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Student Spotlight: Sara Michelassi

Did you know 46% of North Seattle College students reported facing some form of food insecurity? That number, discovered through a student survey, pushed Student Body President Sara Michelassi to coordinate an initiative to host a food pantry on North’s campus. And that’s just one piece of her day job.
