NSCC Instructor a Leader in Open Educational Resources

Before the current state initiative began, NSCC was supporting the movement to provide free open educational resources online. Through a Seattle Community College District course development grant in 2009, Tim Fiegenbaum (full-time instructor in the Business, Engineering and Information Technology Division) created over 100 video tutorials (each around 5-10 minutes in length) on basic electronics topics. With the permission of our college and a textbook publisher (Cengage Learning, Inc.) and under a Creative Commons License, these videos were made freely available at a popular online forum used by thousands of technical school students and professionals as well as others interested in electronics. The Webmaster at allaboutcircuits.com recently reported that these videos received over 640,000 hits in 2009, exceeded 660,000 hits in 2010, -- recently surpassing more than 1,300,000 hits. Tim frequently receives e-mail from students and professionals across the globe (especially the Middle East) to which he graciously responds as a dedicated representative of North’s mission to promote continuous learning and growth. To see one of the video tutorials visit http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/videos.
