Loreen Lilyn Lee

Reading has been a lifetime joy. My love for words and language fueled my decision to write. But it wasn't until  I completed my B.A. as a working adult in 1994 at the University of Washington, Bothell, that I committed to being a creative writer. My classes were very, very demanding and required thoughtful analytical papers. After graduating, I wanted to keep writing and turned to creative writing. I had to unlearn academic writing to be a creative writer, but I had already learned how hard I would need to work to produce good writing.

I will be discussing what has worked for me as a writer having my first book published on March 1, 2019 by Aquarius Press. After years of writing and revising, followed by 3+ years of submitting the manuscript and query letters, The Lava Never Sleeps: A Honolulu Memoir won a book contest, the 2018 Willow Books Literature Award in Prose.
