Moment of Silence Sept. 24 in World Community Garden

North Seattle College President Warren Brown shared the following invitation to campus on Sept. 17:

The 3rd Anniversary of the Ride the Ducks accident is next Monday, Sept. 24, the start of fall quarter.

To honor and remember the five students we lost, and to show support and solidarity with all who were affected by the accident, we will be gathering in the World Community Garden (the south end of campus near the Old Cafeteria) next Monday.

We will have a moment of silence at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 24. If you are unable to join us, there will be a display in the garden throughout the day and you are welcome to come by at any point for a moment of reflection.

As we start the Fall Quarter next week, may we do so in a way that honors the memory of Claudia Derschmidt, Haram Kim, Privando “Ivan” Putradanto, Mami Sato and Runjie Song. I challenge each of us to “pay it forward” in their memory, in whatever way you can. On Monday, let us each greet students and colleagues with warmth in our hearts, and help all feel welcome and supported. I know we strive to do this every day, but, on Monday, may we be intentional about doing it in their honor.

Thank you for all that you do, today and every day, for our students.

Sincerely,

Warren Brown, Ed.D.
