Schedule of Events
The day will begin with information tables from non-profit organizations in The Grove from 11 a.m. - 2.p.m., where students can find out about volunteer opportunities and summer internships.
At 1 p.m. on the upper plaza of the Arts and Science building, there'll be a dedication ceremony for the new Solar Tracker, which was recently installed on top of the Education Building. You can read all about the solar project here.
Speakers and presentations will begin at 2 p.m. in the cafeteria of the College Center building, where there will be 15-minute talks on a variety of sustainability and climate topics.
The day’s events will conclude with a panel presentation at 4 p.m. on the upcoming Northgate Urban Design Framework, Link Lightrail Station, the pedestrian overpass bridge and how that can support the creation of new pedestrian/bike lanes around the campus The panel will also discuss the proposal to turn the Bartonwood natural area on the north side of campus into a preserve for teaching the natural sciences.
The upcoming Northgate Urban Development Project is a chance for North Seattle College to begin co-creating a shared vision for a sustainable community that values its natural assets while supporting smart growth and development. The Earth Day Symposium panel discussion is an opportunity for the campus and community to come together, begin a dialogue about livable communities, and work toward designating the Northgate/Licton/Haller community as an eco-district.
