Gathering & Moment of Silence to Honor Aurora Bridge Victims

September 22, 2017

Dear Campus,

Sunday marks the two-year occurrence of the Aurora Bridge bus accident that tragically killed five of our students, and injured dozens more, just as they were beginning their academic journey with us at North.

To honor and remember the five students we lost, and to show support and solidarity with all who were affected by the accident, we will have two brief gatherings open to the campus community:

  • Moment of Silence:  Sunday, September 24th
    • Sunday, Sept. 24, marks two-years since the Aurora Bridge accident.  At 11:15 a.m., we will have a moment of silence in the World Community Garden (the south end of campus near the Old Cafeteria.)  Candles will be displayed in the garden throughout the day, and you are welcome to come by at any point for a moment of reflection.
  • Gathering and Community Mural:  Monday, September 25th
    • On Monday, Sept. 25, you are invited to a brief gathering in the World Community Garden at 11:15 a.m. I will share remarks and you will then be invited to contribute to a Peace mural to honor the five students we lost and to show our continued care to survivors.  The Peace mural will be displayed by the World Community Garden and students and employees are invited to stop by any time throughout the day to contribute to it (we will have supplies at the mural so you can participate.)

The anniversary of this accident will forever be difficult for many of us, above all for the families who lost loved ones and for those directly involved in the accident.  May we come together as a campus community to hold them in our hearts, to help those around us as they continue the healing process, and to work toward a future that would honor our five students and all those around the world whose lives they touched.

Sincerely,

Warren
