Art Faculty Exhibition Opens 9/24 at NSC Art Gallery

Extracurricular—NSC Art Faculty Exhibition opens September 24 at the gallery on the North Seattle College campus.

Twelve practicing artists and one art historian comprise the North Seattle College Art Department. The first show of the NSC Gallery 2015-2016 exhibition season features current work by this group of instructors.

The show will open on President’s Day, September 24, 2015, and run through October 23. Public and college community members are invited to the formal opening of the exhibition from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29.

The North Seattle College Art Gallery hosts seven shows per year—five curated group shows on themes chosen annually by the college community, an annual student exhibition at the end of each Spring Quarter, and a Continuing Education Art Exhibition during Summer Quarter.

After Extracurricular, the 2015-2016 schedule includes the following exhibitions:

Fall Quarter

ASARO: Revolutionary Thinking

Working with themes of art and protest, this exhibition will highlight prints by the contemporary group of graphic artists Asamblea de Artistas Revolutionarios de Oaxaca (ASARO) and will be paired with a contextual framework.

November 4 - December 11, 2015 | Opening: 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4

Winter Quarter

Molded and Made: An Exhibition of Cast Objects

This exhibition will showcase work created through diverse types of casting including but not limited to ceramics, glass and metal. The show will highlight the process and creation of cast objects.

January 5 – February 5, 2016 | Opening: 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5

MULTI

Through the lens of multiplicity, MULTI will explore how artists translate the subject of abstraction.

February 17 – March 18, 2016 | Opening: 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17

Spring Quarter

Back to the Land: New Ideas in a Local Landscape

This show will be an investigation of rich Pacific Northwest culture through the theme of local landscape. The exhibition partners with the North Seattle College Year of Learning theme, "Ethics of Place."

April 5 – May 6, 2016 | Opening: 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5

2015-2016 Art Student Exhibition

This is the annual exhibit of North Seattle College student artwork, made during the 2015-2016 school year.

May 18 – June 17, 2016 | Opening: 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25                                                               

Summer Quarter

Continuing Education Student Exhibition

This final exhibit features student artwork from North Seattle College Continuing Education classes during the 2015-2016 school year.

July 19 – August 18, 2016 | Opening: 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19

About the NSC Art Gallery

The mission of the Art Gallery is to foster the appreciation and experience of the visual arts on the North Seattle College campus while engaging the college community in learning opportunities and supporting cultural and artistic diversity. The gallery is invested in showcasing art that questions the boundary of fine art and craft.

The Art Gallery is located on campus, 9600 College Way North, Seattle 98103. The gallery is at the courtyard level of the Instruction Building in room IB 1430, adjacent to the bookstore.
