NSCC Connects with Japan

One of the most powerful natural disasters ever to have rocked the world – The Great East Japan Earthquake – happened last year on March 11, 2011. This magnitude 9.0 earthquake was the first in a chain of events to devastate Japan last spring. A shockingly destructive tsunami (with waves reaching more than 100 feet) quickly followed. This destruction was centered in and around Sendai, the largest city in the Tohoku Region.

NSCC Pursues Deeper Partnerships in India

Building community, globally as well as locally, is one of NSCC’s core themes. As part of that commitment, Dana Brolley, a representative of North and staff member in its International Programs, is visiting India over the next two weeks to deepen existing relationships and pursue partnerships with two universities in Bhubaneswar, in the state of Orissa, in the eastern part of the subcontinent.

7 NSCC Student Scientists Present at AAAS International Conference

Undergraduate Research at North creates opportunities for students to do meaningful scientific research before transferring to four-year programs. Student work in North’s Undergraduate Research classes paid off (again) with the inclusion of seven students in poster presentations at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) international conference in Vancouver, BC, February 16-20.

Green Efforts Earn Bronze STARS Rating for North

North Seattle Community College has received a STARS Bronze Rating for sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, is a new voluntary self-assessment program that measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.

Amping Up the Electronics Program at North

Large federal grant will offer more students the necessary training to succeed and obtain excellent jobs in aerospace

North Seattle Community College (NSCC) has been awarded more than $1.1 million to expand and support the College’s electronics program as part of a $20 million state-wide consortium funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
