Power Restored to AS Building; IB Heat Issue Still Being Addressed
Power has been restored to North Seattle College's Arts & Sciences Building, and all in-person instructional activity will resume Monday, Dec. 5. However, the related heating issue in the Instructional Building (IB) has not been resolved (north of rooms 1317/1417, 2317/2417, and 3317/3417), and all instructional activities in that portion of the building will continue to be relocated or moved to remote learning for the time being.

Currently, all other buildings on campus are operational. As a reminder, inclement weather can change the status of North’s campus at any time, and information will be shared via the alert messaging system

Updated December 2, 2022

Due to ongoing issues associated with this week’s power outage, North Seattle College's Arts & Sciences (AS) Building will remain closed until Monday, Dec. 5 at the earliest. While repairs are being made and to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff, all in-person instructional activity in the AS Building will be canceled until Dec. 5 at the earliest. Where possible, virtual learning should continue for these courses, and students should connect with their instructors to make appropriate adjustments in their schedules, if necessary. Students should expect to hear from their instructors about moving online or meeting in a new location.

In addition, the related heating issue in the Instructional Building (IB) has not been resolved (north of rooms 1317/1417, 2317/2417, and 3317/3417), and all instructional activities in that portion of the building will again be relocated or moved to remote learning until Dec. 5 at the earliest. Staff who need a different work location will be accommodated.

All other campus buildings are operational and open; however, parking is still not available in the north garages (under the IB and AS buildings). Please park in one of the outside lots instead.

November 21, 2022

On the morning of Monday, Nov. 21, a fire alarm sounded in the Arts & Sciences (AS) Building on the North Seattle College campus. Seattle Fire was quickly on the scene to investigate, and it was determined that leaking water caused a short circuit resulting in arcing and smoke. Power was cut to much of the north part of campus and in-person instructional activity was canceled for Monday campuswide.

While repairs are being made and to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff, all in-person instructional activity in the AS Building will be canceled for the rest of this week (through Wednesday, Nov. 23, as Thursday and Friday are holiday closures). Where possible, virtual learning should continue for these courses, and students should connect with their instructors to make appropriate adjustments in their schedules, if necessary.

Other important notes:

  • Parking in the north garages (under Instructional and AS buildings) is not available for now. If you are parked there, please move your vehicle to an outside lot.
  • Student services are still available, and the College Center, Health Sciences & Student Resources, and Instructional buildings are open, as is the Opportunity Center.
  • The Wellness Center is closed until further notice as the computer network is not functioning.
  • The Child Care Center is closed until further notice.

Additional updates will be provided as appropriate.
